Le Masque et la plume

Don’t leave the city without seeing Euphrate, written and performed by Nil Bosca, at the Théâtre du Train Bleu. We won’t soon forget this vibrant and colorful character. (…) In a thoroughly delightful dialogue with her father, Euphrate sets off in search of her Turkish roots. (…) Blending words and movement — and what a dancer she is! — the show feels like an oriental tale. Leaving the theatre, you can still see her body pulsating. Radiant. So full of joy.

LE FIGARO

« A delicious flair for phrasing (…). In her monologue, full of suspense and conflicting emotions, Nil Bosca shows a clear gift for self-deprecation, while observing the world around her with sharp precision — ready to strike where it matters. »

« That moment, at 17, when life feels like one big question mark, when guidance counselors seem particularly skilled at disorienting you, and the endless list of possible careers throws you into anxiety — the talented and spirited Nil Bosca captures it perfectly. She wrote the text, which clearly draws heavily from her own life, and tells how a journey to Turkey, her father’s homeland, helped her finally find her path. Along the way, she shows us everything she can do: move, mime, sing, switch roles in the blink of an eye. A powerful and invigorating piece of work. »

LE CANARD ENCHAÎNÉ

« We are moved by Euphrate, the story of a 17-year-old high school student who shares her name with the river that flows through Turkey, Syria, and Iraq. Her mother is from Normandy, her father is Turkish. Coming from a modest background, they pressure Euphrate — who resists the school system — to pursue a respectable career. In this solo performance, directed for the stage with the support of Stanislas Roquette and Olivier Constant, Nil Bosca plays all the characters from her own life, switching onstage between costumes and props, vocal tones, and physical expressions. She masters the art of mime, dance, and acrobatics, and excels at building a connection with the audience, catching their gaze and sensing their attention. She conveys the heavy burden placed on teenagers, who are asked to make life-shaping career choices far too early — just as they are leaving childhood, without the tools to truly envision their future. She also explores the questions of identity and origin faced by young people with dual cultural backgrounds (…). »

LE MONDE DIPLOMATIQUE

” A little gem of a show. (…) As an actress, Nil Bosca excels at shifting between emotional tones and breaking through inner states. She has a beautiful speaking voice. She dances like a flame, sings beautifully. She possesses deep talent and a profoundly moving sensitivity. (…) With Euphrate/Nil, we travel through a wide range of emotions. We laugh a lot, because Nil Bosca has that rare gift: she is funny, both witty and clownish — without ever losing her electric grace. ”

« Her name is Nil Bosca. She is as intelligent as she is perceptive and sensitive. She has written a text in which a young woman — with a Turkish father and a French mother — hesitates and questions her identity. At a pivotal moment, when choosing a professional path for her life, she finds herself in doubt. Under the warm guidance of Stanislas Roquette and Olivier Constant (stage direction), and with the support of Jane David and Yvan Lombard (assistant direction and stage management), Nil Bosca shines. She is dazzling. Moving. She acts and dances as naturally as she breathes. Since its premiere at the Lavoir Moderne, this gem of theatrical art — a blend of writing, performance, emotion, wit, and deep meaning in light of the movements shaping our societies — Euphrate is a show to see and see again. A performance that enlightens us — through smiles, laughter, and tears. It feels more relevant than ever. Rooted in the pure present. »

Nil Bosca, all fire and flame

” This solo performance, as powerful and (very) funny as it is moving, reveals the journey of a young woman toward fulfilling her deepest desire: to act. (…) Euphrate captivates as much as it strikes. Through its text — as sensitive as it is restrained, as precise as it is open to silence and unspoken spaces. Through its performance: actress, dancer, singer — Nil Bosca has a rare power and expressiveness, never overplayed. When words fall short, her body takes over to express the inexpressible, intensifying the emotions even further. Through its direction: minimal yet deeply effective, able to signal with very little, always going to the essence without losing meaning. And above all, through what drives Euphrate/Nil. With great humor and sharpness, Nil Bosca addresses racism, social labels, and questions of identity — telling the story of a quest: that of a young woman driven by the desire to find her place.”

“Alone on stage, (…) the actress, with an intense presence, commands the space with an energy one wouldn’t expect from her delicate frame. Her hair tousled, her gaze steady, dark and deep, she conveys both Euphrate’s fragility and inner wounds, as well as the strength and vitality that will allow her to rise above a chaotic path and find her rightful place — on the theatre stage. (…) A truly remarkable debut.”

AVIGNON OFF: A MOMENT OF GRACE AND GRAVITY

« A moment of grace and gravity. The virtuosity of Nil Bosca, the actress embodying young Euphrate — caught at the pivotal moment of her final year in high school, whom we follow over the course of a decade as she searches for her path — is so striking that one might almost overlook the subject she explores with infinite delicacy, modesty, and a playful irreverence. Born to a Turkish father and a Norman mother, questions of identity and cultural hybridity are at the heart of her story. (…) A true revelation. »

Known for its unrivaled power of word of mouth, the Avignon Off Festival became the perfect echo chamber for her name and this first solo performance, which was a resounding success. »

Théâtre(s) - Euphrate

« Nil Bosca is a whirlwind — she acts as she dances, with phenomenal precision and intensity. Her physical commitment is the driving force of this solo, shaped as a quest, which deliberately avoids any realistic aesthetic to explore a theatrical expression rooted in burlesque, hip-hop, and exaggerated physicality — bold and original. »

THÉÂTRE(S), the magazine of theatrical life

« Nil Bosca gracefully takes on all the voices in this autobiographical and jubilant piece (…). Blending theatre and dance, witty dialogues and burlesque interludes, the show provokes plenty of laughter without ever losing the thread of genuine emotion. Life is a constant reinvention of the self, and the path toward one’s desire is often winding. »
